these things that i believe
May. 13th, 2012 02:49 pmChurch was a good experience today. I am going to Throop Church in Pasadena even though I'm in LA because my long term goals are to get up to Pasadena instead. There's another UU church in Pasadena, but it's a bit bigger and I've always been a lot more comfortable with small communities.
It was a guest minister today. His sermon didn't strike home that much. He talked a lot about camp and community, which I got, but I didn't feel. What I took from his sermon the most was when he talked about someone who changed his life simply by being there for him. And not intensely. Just... an adult who made sure a teenager knew someone cared about him. And he talked about a chance he had to be that person, ever so briefly, at a young ministry camp. I thought, maybe I need someone like that for me. I know there are people who care about me, but those are people I'm heavily invested in. Maybe I need an authority figure in my life who appreciates me for who I am.
After worship, the church had lunch. Everything was vegetarian. I got to meet a lot of the members of the church (well, not that many, considering they were all gone for Mother's Day) and they were very interested in hearing my story. One of the members gave me a ride back to the train station so I wouldn't have to stress my leg.
All in all, it's been a good day today. I also got to see
dchan for coffee, if only briefly. We talked about housing and writing, and it was all good.
