Sketched out a YA sci-fi novel today that covers all of the restrictions of my challenge. It's pretty cute, about a boy and his dog, fixing things that adults have screwed up, like adults do. It's 22 chapters long, which means as long as I keep the chapters under 2000 words, it should come out to a decent size.

I'm having a little trouble starting the first chapter, but I was gifted a copy of Scrivener, so I will have an easier time working non-linearly if I need to. I'll focus on more of it tomorrow when I'm not running around the courthouse again. (Doing last step name change things until my hearing.)

Am thinking about doing some character development work with Loren. I need to figure out some things before I start doing tentative storyboarding for little scenes. The Angel Project has been thrumming in my head for a couple days now. I'm trying to read about writing a graphic novel so I can properly work on some things. It's really different than I'm used to.

I think I'm still going to write my velociraptors story even though it's thematically similar to a lot of my other writing. There are a few sticking points in it that make me really happy. Like the fact that the protag files her teeth. But most of my effort is going to be going into The Clockwork Ghosts.

So, I IMed an old friend (I've known him since middle school) to help me with my coding woes and I found out that he's in the Bay area now and actually comes up to LA pretty regularly. Which means that we should be able to meet up again pretty soon. Which is awesome. He's been really accepting of my gender transition and loves my name I picked out for my name change. (He also pointed out that the upside is he can spell it.)

I won a raffle for a ticket to Paramount Studios this week. I'm not exactly sure what the means yet, but I'm not about to turn down free stuff.

I'm also probably going to the movies next week! Transitions does outings every once in a while to strengthen the community. I haven't been to a movie since the Hunger Games and it was a really long time before I saw anything before that. Movies are just so expensive now.

As for my challenge:

It's definitely linear.
It has two healthy relationships.

...but I'm not sure if it's optimistic. It's not depressing, but when I think of optimistic sci fi, I think of stories that tell how humans and technology will make the world a better place. I guess I think of Star Trek. I think in the end, it will be... a happy ending, but I'm still not sure that's optimistic. If I fiddle with things, I guess it will be.

My goal for the week is to write something that is:

1. Optimistic
2. Linear
3. Has no unhealthy relationships Has a healthy relationship

I have no idea as of yet how I'm going to do this.
