So I just received one of the most insulting personal rejections I've ever seen. Not insulting to me, but insulting to my story.
I was told that I should have made one of the characters in Reformatted Soul male.
Granted, I did strip out the non-binary pronouns to make the story more palatable for the market, but seriously. What the fuck?

This and a lot of other stories like it (plus some personal experience) are part of the reason I'm so afraid to write Slouching Toward. :(

I'm trying not to be too pissed off about it. He didn't like my story, and that's okay. He's also a sexist douchenozzle who doesn't think robots can have genders. (He put EDEN's gender in scare quotes in the rejection.) It's just really discouraging because I gave him the watered down version of the story.

Out of curiosity, did they specify which character should be male?

He said that EDEN should have been a 'male' bot (or Izzy). So he obviously had EDEN in mind, but would have settled for Izzy.

I mean, I already blame media for 90% of gender stereotype problems (the other 10% is internalised stuff from earlier generations... but I think really, it's the media that gives us the idea to police things and what to be policing.) I want the media to stop it. When people stop the media from stopping it, I want to puke on their faces. (Because I'm just so girly like that.)
